Senior Teacher - Cello
Daniel Leong developed a keen interest in music at an early age, and decided to pursue music as a career soon after. He was a student at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he studied cello with Professor Ray Wang. He graduated with Bachelor of Music (Honours) Degree in 2014. He attended masterclasses taught by famous cellists such as YO-YO Ma, Wang Jian, Mike Block, Francios Salque and Bion Tsang. He has participated in many music competitions and his playing has earned him several awards. In summer of 2006, he participated in “The Second Aegean Sea Cup Cello Competition” in Beijing and won second prize in the contest. In 2011, he participated in the Nationaal Jeugd Orkest (NJO), which is the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands for players under 30. Recently in 2018, he was selected to attend the YMCG2018, where he worked with Yo-Yo Ma and The Silk Road ensemble band.
Daniel has performed as a freelance cellist in several regional orchestras and has performed in many music festivals. Additionally, he has collaborated and performed with Hong Kong International Cello Association, Macao Orchestra, Macao Virtuosi, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Academy Symphony Orchestra of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hong Kong Virtuosi , RTHK Quartet, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Concertmaster Jing Wang and Viola Principal Andrew Ling. He has also played with a wide range of pop artists including Cass Phang Ling, Ronald Cheng, A-Lin, Tang Tsz Kei, Rainie Yang and G.E.M.
In addition, with a strong interest in arts leadership, Daniel has worked closely with young artists, encouraging them to be effective, creative and community-minded collaborators. Daniel is an experienced teacher. Many of his students have had outstanding results in ABRSM exams and Hong Kong School Music Competitions.
