Dr. Chong Wai Lon is an accomplished music educator with a distinguished academic background, extensive teaching experience, and a strong commitment to music education. Raised in a musical family, she was introduced to both Chinese and Western instruments from an early age under the guidance of her father, a professional Chinese music educator. Her systematic musical training laid a solid foundation for her lifelong pursuit of music and education. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, a Master’s degree in Arts Management, and a Doctorate in Education, with research focusing on music education, community development, and youth development.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, Dr. Chong has taught at various schools and educational institutions in Macau. Her expertise spans piano, music theory, aural training, guzheng, percussion, drum set, vocal studies, and pop music. She believes in a student-centred approach, designing lessons that cater to individual learning needs while nurturing musical excellence, artistic appreciation, confidence, and expressive performance.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Chong has gained valuable experience in arts administration and concert production through her work with the Macao Chinese Orchestra and the Macao Orchestra. Her responsibilities included music library management, stage coordination, programme planning, and the organisation of large-scale music events, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of professional performance production.
Alongside her teaching career, Dr. Chong actively engages in academic research on music education and its role in community development. Her doctoral research examined the educational impact of music organisations in Macau, with findings published in academic journals. She has also completed professional training in inclusive education, enabling her to support students with diverse learning needs through thoughtful and adaptive teaching.
Combining broad musical expertise, academic excellence, and rich practical experience, Dr. Chong is dedicated to fostering comprehensive music education. She is passionate about helping students of all ages and abilities build a strong musical foundation, discover their potential, and develop confidence alongside a lifelong appreciation for music.
