Jacky Lao graduated with a Master of Education from the City University of Macau. He studied piano under Dr. Ng Shing Chung and composer Ms. Lei Wai Fan, and cello with Mr. Liang Wen Yu (Macao Chamber Orchestra, predecessor of the Macao Orchestra) and Mr. Zhang Tai-Yang. He has obtained Grade 8 Music Theory, Grade 8 Piano, and Grade 8 Cello from the ABRSM. At the same time, in addition to performing, Jacky also focuses on music theory and educational research, and he is a member of the Macau City Music Association.
Jacky has taught music in primary and secondary schools in Macau and has many years of piano teaching experience. He is amiable, and his students have achieved excellent results. Jacky was awarded a full scholarship by the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department (Parsons Music Scholarship) to participate in the Orchestra training at the Hong Kong Youth Music Camp. In the same year, he performed in the "Hope for the Future" concert with the Macao Orchestra and received instruction from pianist Barry Douglas in a masterclass. He also received guidance from cellist David Finckel in a masterclass. Jacky served as the solo cellist in the dance theater production "It's Still Early to Get Off Work - Car Clothes" by Wind Box Theate.
